BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech is offering a $10,000 reward for information in last week's off-campus slayings of two students.
The reward offer, posted yesterday on the university's Web site, is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for killing Heidi Childs and David Meltzer. The two were found Aug. 26 at the Caldwell Fields camping area of Montgomery County, a short drive from the Blacksburg campus.
"Two bright young lights were lost last week to a wanton act of violence and this university continues to mourn their passing," said Charles W. Steger, the university's president. "The killer or killers of these two young people must be brought to justice and we seek to assist police authorities in indentifying the assailant(s)."
Anyone with information can contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at (540) 382-2951.
Virginia Tech said the reward money came from gifts from the university's administration and board of visitors.
