Del. Joseph D. Morrissey, D-Henrico, is pedaling a 74-mile path through the 74th district to kick off his re-election campaign.
The former Richmond commonwealth's attorney, a Democrat who quickly became one of the House of Delegates' more outspoken members, is seeking a second term representing a district that covers Charles City County and parts of Henrico County, Richmond, Prince George County and Hopewell.
His opponent is Republican Michael Gage.
Morrissey will make the trek next Saturday, starting at Virginia Center Commons, then stopping at Three Lakes Park to speak at a Democratic picnic before "dodging NASCAR race-day traffic" by Richmond International Raceway on his way to Highland Springs.
He'll snake through Sandston and Charles City before crossing the James River to Hopewell, where another picnic awaits. He will head back to the Charles City Courthouse section of the Virginia Capital Trail and finish with . . . a picnic.
Several area elected officials and candidates are expected to join "Team Morrissey" -- wearing shirts reading "Joe, A Fighter in the House" -- along parts of the ride.
