A Virginia Commonwealth University student found dead last night committed suicide by apparently jumping from Rhoads Hall, a high-rise dormitory where she lived, police and university officials said.

Sara Prescott, 18, who was a resident of Rhoads at 710 W. Franklin St., died of blunt force trauma as a result of the fall. The state Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled her death a suicide, police said.

Prescott’s body was discovered about 11:30 p.m. on the sidewalk in the 700 block of West Franklin Street, near the north side of Monroe Park.

Richmond authorities and VCU police continue to investigate the circumstances of her death.
