Two Richmond teenagers have been convicted of summoning a Chinese food delivery driver to a vacant house in Henrico County and robbing him at gunpoint of $7 and food.
Brian M. Thomas, now 18, of the 1300 block of Minefee Street in South Richmond, was ordered to serve time Tuesday in a juvenile facility with a review of his status set after two years. He could remain in custody until he turns 21.
Thomas pleaded guilty to charges linked to the robbery and attempted carjacking in April of a delivery driver for Ho Ho Carryout on East Laburnum Ave.
A cousin and co-defendant of Thomas's, Jerode Thomas, 17, of the 2300 block of Bethel Street in Whitcomb Court, also has been sentenced to serve time in a juvenile facility in connection with the case until he is 21, with a review of his status set after two years.
A third suspect has not been apprehended. The driver was robbed at gunpoint of $7 and a Chinese dinner in April this year when he was sent to an abandoned house in the 500 block of Fayette Avenue east of Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The driver, a Virginia Commonwealth University student, was not seriously injured but was struck in the head with a gun. Suspects in the case tried to steal his vehicle but were unable to operate the manual shift transmission. No gun was recovered, according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Nikki M. Clarke.
