Three people escaped a kitchen fire this morning in Richmond’s East End, fire officials report.
Firefighters were summoned at 9:16 a.m. to the 2400 block of Carrington Street near North 24th Street and found smoke rising from a two-story house, said Richmond fire Lt. Shawn L. Jones.
Firefighters said the fire was under control at 9:31 a.m.
No one was injured although the blaze caused $5,000 in damage, Jones said. Fire officials attributed the cause of the blaze to a cooking accident.
The house had working smoke alarms that alerted the residents, who are being assisted by The Red Cross, Jones said.
