In a news release this morning, State Police said troopers were called to 732 wrecks yesterday, including 197 in the Richmond area, 178 in the region that includes Hampton Roads and 104 in the area that includes the Northern Virginia localities pounded by blizzard conditions.
During the period of Tuesday through this morning, there were 106 wrecks with injuries and 892 with property damage, State Police said. Thirty-one accidents involved state vehicles.
Recent foul weather has proven hazardous to troopers, a spokesman said yesterday.
Since the weekend, 11 troopers have been struck by out-of-control vehicles, and four have suffered minor injuries, said Sgt. Thomas Molnar, a spokesman. He said several other troopers have been injured in other weather-related incidents.
Molnar reminds motorists to be on the alert for stopped emergency personnel and vehicles.
