NORFOLK -- A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution after pleading guilty to wire fraud in a mortgage scheme.
The government says 44-year-old Wayne Marlon Benedic Lezama was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk. He entered his guilty plea in November.
According to court documents, Lezama was involved in a scheme from August 2005 until January 2007 to obtain more than $4 million with 14 mortgage loans in the Tidewater area.
Prosecutors said Lezama obtained mortgage financing fraudulently in Norfolk, Hampton, Virginia Beach and other localities by using his name or what the government called a nominee buyer.
