Gov. Bob McDonnell said this morning that state highway crews will be patching storm-damaged highways next month.
"March will be pothole month in Virginia," McDonnell said on the "Ask-the-Governor" phone-in program on Richmond's WRVA.
"VDOT will be busy," McDonnell said.
McDonnell also defended taking federal money to offset, in part, the millions of dollars Virginia has spent clearing snow from state roads.
The governor said he hopes Virginia can cash in on offshore drilling for oil and gas, saying he's urging the federal government to speed the process for awarding leases.
So far, however, no energy companies have expressed an interest in drilling off the Virginia coast.
In a largely symbolic victory for McDonnell, the Virginia Senate earlier this week sent to the governor legislation that would set aside 80 percent of royalties from offshore drilling for state and local transportation projects.
