VDOT commissioner to resign

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Virginia Transportation Commissioner David S. Ekern will step down as head of the Virginia Department of Transportation on Friday.

"Effective Jan. 15, 2010, I will resign as commissioner," Ekern wrote Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, who appointed him to run VDOT in 2006.

Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell has begun a nationwide search for a new VDOT commissioner.

McDonnell has criticized the state's highway agency's operations as slow and bureaucratic.
