Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones pledged tonight to implement an aggressive, new approach to attracting development and investment in the city.
In his first State of the City Address at the Carpenter Theatre, Jones said that despite the current budget crisis, he's preparing his administration to pursue $2 billion in development opportunities in various areas, including the Dove Court and North Jackson Ward areas, the 25th Street/Nine Mile Road corridor, Shockoe Bottom and the former headquarters of the GRTC Transit System along Cary Street.
The mayor also touched on plans for closing a projected $30 million budget shortfall for fiscal 2010-11, as well as for improving schools, finding summer jobs for teenagers, communicating with residents and working regionally to build a replacement for the Richmond Coliseum.
