March execution date set for Paul Powell

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Barring intervention by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell or the courts, Paul Warner Powell will be executed March 18 for the murder of a 16-year-old girl.

Powell's new execution date was set this afternoon by a Prince William County Circuit Court judge in a telephone conference call.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to take up Powell's appeal this week clearing the way for a new execution date.

Powell, 31, was sentenced to death for the Jan. 29, 1999, murder of Stacie Lynn Reed, in her Manassas-area home. After killing Stacie, Powell raped and cut the throat of her 14-year-old sister, Kristie, who survived.
