»  Comments | Post a Comment

Gov. Bob McDonnell paid a surprise visit to House and Senate negotiators this morning, pushing them to adopt a compromise budget-balancing plan in time for tomorrow's scheduled close of the 2010 General Assembly.

The Republican, accompanied by chief of staff Martin Kent, met privately with Senate Democrats on the 10th floor of the General Assembly Building before huddling with conferees from both parties.

The Senate squad numbers seven -- four Democrats and three Republicans.

McDonnell also called on House negotiators on the ninth floor of the legislative office building on Capitol Square.

There are six House conferees -- one independent, four Republicans and one Democrat.
