Two Richmond-area residents die in I-295 crash

Two Richmond-area residents died last night when a car veered across an Interstate 295 median in eastern Henrico County and hit their southbound vehicle, authorities said.


The collision in the southbound lanes of I-295 near the Pocahontas Parkway caused a 2-mile backup that lasted about three hours, ending about 6:30 p.m.


Virginia State Police said Victor Charles, 38, of the 4700 block of Brimley Place in Chesterfield County died. A passenger, Rashell Thompson, of the Richmond area, also died at VCU Medical Center. Her street address was unavailable last night.


Sgt. Thomas Molnar said last night that Lucien Lareau, a resident of Chambly, Quebec, whose car crossed the median, was charged with reckless driving. Lareau, 71,was being treated at VCU Medical Center.
