A Louisa County judge today sentenced a Henrico County man to 100 years in prison for five counts of soliciting sex from a child younger than 15 over the Internet.
Circuit Judge Timothy K. Sanner imposed the jury's recommended sentence against George H. Spiker Jr., 55. The jury convicted Spiker in January.
According to prosecutors, Spiker entered Yahoo chat rooms in January and February of 2009 and later drove to meet someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
During the often-explicit chats, Spiker offered the girl clothing, jewelry and money for college, while aggressively soliciting her for sex acts, prosecutors said. He used a webcam to expose himself before arranging to meet on Feb. 19, 2009.
Authorities arrested him when he went to meet the girl.
During the sentencing phase of the trial, the jury learned that Spiker previously was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a minor in West Virginia.
Referring to today's sentence, Louisa Commonwealth's Attorney Thomas A. Garrett Jr. said, "We are pleased that Spiker will not have the opportunity to harm another child." -- Reed Williams
