Henrico County residents made a strong showing at Gov. Bob McDonnell's inaugural events, ranking third in attendees behind McDonnell's two stomping grounds -- Fairfax County and Virginia Beach.

Henricoans ranked second behind Fairfax residents for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's inaugural events, according to an analysis by the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonpartisan tracker of money in politics.

VPAP figures this data by tracking the number of people who paid $250 or less for inaugural week event tickets. It's harder to tell for Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling because he did not charge admission for his inaugural ball.

Recently released financial reports for the statewide officeholders' inaugural committees showed McDonnell raised $1.9 million from 1,554 donors and spent $1.6 million on inaugural events between Nov. 15, 2009 and Feb. 28.

A change in state law since the 2006 inauguration prevents statewide office holders from rolling surpluses into their political action committee fund. The remaining money is now donated to a nonprofit organization.

McDonnell's team plans to give more than $100,000 to charity.

Bolling, who won re-election as part of the statewide Republican sweep, raised $85,964 from 155 donors and spent $80,404.

Cuccinelli raised $244,935 from 326 donors and spent $244,160. He had $774 remaining.

For McDonnell's inaugural events, 103 Henrico residents plunked down money to fete the new governor, 70 Chesterfield County residents and 57 from Richmond city. Fairfax residents accounted for 169 attendees and Virginia Beach natives for 141.

VPAP's analysis by occupation also shows that retirees accounted for the most small donors (under $250) followed by lawyers and state employees. Attorneys ranked highest among small donors to Cuccinelli followed by retirees and state employees.
