A Milford woman died and two children suffered serious injuries in an automobile crash in Caroline County early Saturday.
State police responded at 3:11 a.m. Saturday to the crash on Route 301, Richmond Turnpike, just south of Route 648, Sunshine Road.
Elisabeth L. Kearse, 37, was driving a Toyota Camry northbound when the car ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree, police reported.
Kearse was flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital where she later died. Two 11-year-olds in the back seat suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. One of the 11-year-olds was also flown to VCU Hospital. The other child was transported by ambulance.
Police said none of the three was wearing seat belts.
One of the 11-year-olds was Kearse's daughter. The other child was a friend, also from Caroline County.
The crash was under investigation. A state police spokesman said speed and alcohol are not considered factors.
