In addition to lending his political weight to Richmond's Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts, Gov. Bob McDonnell plans to give the fledgling charter school $25,000 from his surplus inaugural funds.

The money is in addition to whatever is raised at a high-dollar fundraiser the governor will attend at the school tomorrow night, according to a McDonnell staffer.

McDonnell, a staunch supporter of public charter schools, who pushed successful legislation this year to make it easier to open them, is apparently also holding a reception before tomorrow's fundraiser at the Executive Mansion.

The $25,000 would come from McDonnell's inaugural committee. He had an extra $100,000 and under state law surpluses now must be donated to nonprofit organizations.
