Rep. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th, said Republicans wanted a "seat at the table" with President Obama on health-care reform, but were shut out because of ideological differences.
Speaking today to a breakfast meeting of the Associated General Contractors of Virginia at the Willow Oaks County Club, Cantor said the health-care plan will impose costly new burdens on contractors and other small businesses.
Three U.S. Capitol policemen accompanied Cantor, who received a threat on his life last week and has received threatening mail. As the Republican Whip -- the No. 2 leadership position in the minority party -- Cantor is entitled to security protection. He did not discuss the threat in his remarks.
