UPDATE: No injuries in South Richmond gas leak

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A ruptured natural gas line prompted authorities to evacuate an area around a strip mall and a school in South Richmond this morning.

There were no injuries.

The leak occurred when a private contractor hit a 1.5-inch gas line shortly before 9 a.m. in the 6300 block of Jahnke Road, at the Parkway Plaza Shopping Center, Richmond fire Lt. Shawn L. Jones said. The strip mall is between Blakemore and German School roads and is across the street from Lucille M. Brown Middle School.

Richmond fire authorities and police sealed off the area and evacuated nearby buildings for about 30 minutes while waiting for utilities crews to arrive to repair the ruptured line.
