A former Richmond sheriff’s deputy whose Henrico convictions for felony animal abuse were meant to send a message to the dog-fighting community will serve out the remainder of his sentence in the comforts of home.
A Henrico judge this morning said David W. Robinson, 31, can serve out the remaining 10 months of his 14-month sentence working and at home.
“Terribly disappointed. That’s all can say,” Henrico Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Heidi S. Barshinger said after court; she told Henrico Circuit Judge Burnett Miller III that Robinson should stay behind bars and that in post-conviction interviews he still hadn’t taken responsibility for what he’d done.
Investigators turned up 22 dogs living in filth in Robinson’s eastern Henrico backyard. All but six died from malnutrition or had to be euthanized because of malnutrition or disease
