Agreement limits Hanover County resident to two chimps

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Four of the chimps at Windy Oaks in Hanover County will have to go, under an agreement that holds Curtis Shepperson to his original permit for two chimpanzees in his personal menagerie.

The Hanover Board of Supervisors had been scheduled Wednesday night to consider allowing four chimps on the Shepperson’s property near Mechanicsville, but the owner withdrew his application because of opposition from neighbors, county animal control offers and others, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

County attorney Sterling Rives said the terms of the agreement give Shepperson two years to find new homes for the four chimps.
