WASHINGTON -- The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear lived up to expectations for Eileen Davis, a nurse who was among the hundreds of people driving up from Richmond and taking the subway into town.
She found a spot about 100 yards from the stage and was surrounded by Californians, Oklahomans, and Alaskans who had flown to Washington for the event. The Alaskans had one of her favorite signs, "Real Alaskans Don't Quit," she said.
"It was a very interesting day. I'm glad I went," she said. She said she appreciated the "sharp political humor" on stage on the National Mall and in the crowd.
At the Springfield Metro station, Luke Libra, 24, of Richmond was dressed for the mix of humor and rationality that characterized the day. Wearing the sleeves of a bear costume, he said he was for "the right to bear arms."
Michael Bradley, Bonmin Koo and Tey Moinzadeh, students from Richard Bland Community College, carried a sign saying, "We disagree on key issues -- it's called democracy."
