Three Hanover County residents have been arrested in multiple daylight break-ins and remain suspects in other cases.
Ashland police and the Hanover Sheriff's Office joined forces to arrest Charles F. Hogge, 23, of Ashland and Ashley Marie Rasnake, 21, of the Doswell area on Wednesday and Stuart C. Baker, 32, of Ashland on Thursday.
They are charged with 23 felony counts, including breaking and entering and grand larceny, but an investigation is continuing into other unsolved break-ins that may have occurred in the vicinity of Ashland and Hanover.
The break-ins add to a growing threat of brazen burglaries that have affected the metropolitan area south of the James River in recent months.
Four Petersburg residents were arrested and charged last week with a string of residential burglaries that struck eastern Dinwiddie County.
In Chesterfield County, a homeless man is under arrest and believed to be behind as many as 25 break-ins within the Brandermill area. Those break-ins focused on jewelry and other small items that could be carried off without detection and had a total value of about $400,000.
But large items such as flat-screen televisions have become a favorite target, according to police, who say the rash of burglaries seem to be focusing on specific neighborhoods and occur in quick succession.
Last fall, a Chesterfield couple was arrested and charged with burglaries that spanned at least 18 counties in central Virginia and targeted more than 80 homes. Police found up to 100 stolen items in a Castlewood Road apartment in Chesterfield linked to the burglaries.
