Two gunshot victims were taken to hospitals Tuesday night, one with life-threatening injuries, after gunfire broke out in separate locations of Richmond's East End.
Richmond police Capt. Paul Kiniry said an investigation was continuing today but that detectives were unable to immediately determine if the shootings were linked.
Officers responding to the first shooting, at 9 p.m., learned that a male had been shot in the chest at North 22nd and Carrington streets. The victim was taken by private vehicle to Richmond Community Hospital, then transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, Kiniry said.
The victim told police he was walking along the street when a black Nissan Maxima pulled up alongside him and some inside the car began shooting, Kiniry said.
The second shooting occurred at 9:04 p.m. in the 600 block of North 35th Street, where a man was struck by gunfire in the lower left leg, Kiniry said. That victim was treated at Richmond Community, Kiniry said.
Police today were continuing to develop suspect information for the second shooting, Kiniry said.
Anyone with information about either shooting can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (804) 780-1000.
