HARRISONBURG — State officials are considering an alternative way to generate electricity that would help poultry farmers in the Shenandoah Valley dispose of animal waste.
The Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Conservation and Recreation plan to study the feasibility of a power plant that would convert poultry litter into electricity.
Department of Environmental Quality spokesman Bill Hayden told The Daily News-Record that the goal is to reduce nutrient pollution in a way that doesn't contribute to air pollution.
