Man arrested for New Year's Day homicides in South Richmond

Police have arrested a man and charged him for his alleged role in two New Year's Day homicides in South Richmond.

Ivan A. “Slap” Smith, 29, of the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Police were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 for a report of shots fired. Officers found Alex R. Arrington Jr., 25, shot to death outside and Coraliss A. Logan, 25, shot to death inside a vehicle a block away.

Police, who credited tips from the community for helping to make the arrest, said the investigation remains open.
