No injuries were reported in a fire that caused significant damage to a house in Richmond's East End this morning.
Richmond Fire & EMS Lt. Shawn L. Jones said the fire was reported at 2:44 a.m. in the 1500 block of Spotsylvania Street, just north of Mosby Middle School.
The first firefighters found heavy fire coming through the roof of the ranch house. Despite being slowed initially by a downed power line at the site, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 3:17 a.m., Jones said.
The lone occupant of the house, who was not home at the time of the fire, was being assisted by the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross in finding temporary housing.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, Jones said.
