ITT Defense plans Fairfax headquarters
ITT Defense and Information Solutions is planning to establish its new headquarters in Fairfax County after its spin-off from ITT Corp. later this year.
The company would invest up to $5 million in the project that would create 100 jobs over the next three to five years, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Monday.
The company has offices in McLean, Herndon and Roanoke.
ITT Defense and Information Solutions provides products and services including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, weather and climate monitoring and integrated electronic warfare. After the spin-off, it will be renamed ITT Exelis.
McDonnell approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
Deal sought again in Massey slurry case
For the third time, two judges will try to settle a lawsuit that claims Massey Energy Co. poisoned hundreds of West Virginia wells with coal slurry.
West Virginia's Mass Litigation Panel is handling the case against Massey and subsidiary Rawl Sales & Processing, both now owned by Virginia-based Alpha Natural Resources.
Alpha declined comment except to say it is open to discussions.
The judges have ordered attorneys to meet next week in Charleston, W.Va., to discuss a possible deal and avoid a trial set to begin Aug. 1. The judges won't be part of that trial if it occurs.
Massey agreed in February to create a medical-monitoring fund to provide health screenings for hundreds of plaintiffs, but it denies that its operations harmed anyone.
