NYW Enterprise to use former Smurfit Stone site
NYW Enterprise LLC has bought the former Smurfit Stone property at 5700 Lewis Road in Henrico County to expand operations in the Richmond area. The property was on the market for more than a year.
New York-based New Yung Wah Trading LLC, which has an operation on Eubank Road in Henrico, will continue to operate there along with its NYW Enterprise subsidiary.
Established in 1993, the company has a distribution fleet of more than 70 trucks, serving the food services industry and restaurants on the East Coast with hubs in New York and Pennsylvania in addition to Virginia.
The 145,706-square-foot facility on Lewis Road has 13 loading docks and sits on 11.92 acres with the potential for building expansion.
Bob Porter and Cliff Porter of Porter Realty Co. Inc. in Richmond handled the marketing of the property and sale negotiations on the seller's behalf. Dick Porter, also of Porter Realty, represented the buyer.
Shenandoah Valley co-op seeks restaurant deal
A group of Shenandoah Valley farmers is working on a deal to supply beef to two Northern Virginia restaurants.
Shenandoah Valley Beef Cooperative hopes to complete the deal with the Clyde's Restaurant Group by the end of the year.
Clyde's representatives toured several farms in the Harrisonburg area last week.
The cooperative proposes supplying about 5,000 pounds of ground beef per week to the restaurants.
Cooperative board Chairman and President Terry Sager says the proposed deal would be a boon to the group's members.
Agriculture officials happy with peach crop
Sweet news from state farm officials: The 2011 peach crop is a good one.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says rain early in the growing season plumped up peaches, and growers didn't lose any of their fruit because of frost. And the hot weather has sweetened the fruit.
Virginia produces 6,210 tons of peaches annually with a value approaching nearly $4 million.
The state is amid its peak peach season, which runs through Labor Day. Among the varieties grown in Virginia are white, doughnut-shaped and yellow flesh.
New bus service links Roanoke and Lynchburg
Smart Way Connector has started a new bus service linking Roanoke and Lynchburg.
The cost is $4 for a one-way trip.
The 16-seat shuttle departs twice daily from Roanoke and connects with Amtrak service in Lynchburg. The service expands on Fridays and weekends to carry passengers from Lynchburg to Virginia Tech, Christiansburg and Salem.
