About 300 students received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Virginia Union University this morning at a ceremony at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
Guest speaker Cora Marrett, a senior advisor at the National Science Foundation and 1965 VUU graduate, said being flexible and adaptable are important attributes.
"Life happens when you are on your way to something else," Marrett said. "VUU has provided you a solid foundation to leverage future opportunities."
Being flexible and adaptable helps people prepare for whatever life delivers along the way, she said.
Also locally this morning, John Tyler and J. Sargeant Reynolds community colleges held their graduations.
