A United Airlines flight bound from Northern Virginia to Rochester, N.Y., was diverted to Richmond International Airport late Monday night after experiencing computer problems.
The passengers were put on another plane in Richmond and continued on their way to New York without incident.
Richmond International Airport spokesman Troy Bell said United Express Flight 5837 took off from Dulles International Airport shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, bound for Rochester, before Richmond traffic controllers were notified about 11:30 that the flight was being diverted.
The flight landed at Richmond about midnight without any problems, taxied to a gate at Concourse B and the approximately 30 passengers on the 50-seat regional jet were put on another plane. That flight left Richmond at 1:36 a.m. and landed in Rochester at 2:33 a.m.
Bell said the United Express flight, which is operated by ExpressJet Airlines, elected to divert to Richmond International because the operator has had a regional maintenance facility at the airport for more than a decade.
"We have diversions like this from time to time," Bell said.
Mechanics at Richmond were checking on the plane today.
