»  Comments | Post a Comment

Richmond firefighters said they responded to a river rescue situation this evening shortly before 5 p.m. and expected a quick recovery of a stranded woman and a pet dog.

A canoe began taking on water, and a male friend made his way to the south shore of the river by jumping rocks and then used a hikers cellphone to call 911, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

The woman and the dog were being brought to shore just before 5:30 and no injuries were reported. The incident occurred about 1,000 feet downriver from the Boulevard Bridge offshore from the railroad overpass walkway near the 4400 block of Riverside Drive.
