Man shot in both hands in North Richmond robbery try

A man was shot in both hands in what police are investigating as an attempted robbery in North Richmond.

Richmond police Capt. Yvonne Crowder said the man, who appeared to have been struck with pellets from a shotgun blast, was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Crowder said the shooting was reported at 10:11 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of West Laburnum Avenue.

The victim told police he was confronted by two men, one of them armed with a shotgun, who tried to rob him. The victim said he struggled with the men, and when the gun discharged, the suspects ran.

A detailed suspect description was not provided.
