Authorities today arrested two people in connection with the shooting death of a man Sunday night at the Gilpin Court public-housing project in Richmond.
Brandon D. Cooper, 26, of the 2100 block of Deforrest Street in Richmond, and Jamilah A. Crews, 25, of the 1600 block of Henrico Arms Place in Henrico County, were taken into custody early this morning.
Cooper and Crews both were charged with conspiracy to commit murder for their alleged roles in the death of Antwon D. Freeman, 19, of the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street in Richmond. Freeman was found shot to death Sunday when officers were called at 8:02 p.m. to a location outside an apartment building in the 1300 block of St. John Street.
Cooper and Crews were arrested in the 1600 block of Henrico Arms Place by the U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and members of the Richmond and Henrico police departments.
Richmond police spokesman James Mercante said authorities capitalized on assistance from the community to help detectives quickly identify Cooper and Crews as suspects.
Mercante declined to address a possible motive for the shooting death but said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
