PULASKI — Canine owners in Pulaski County are being urged to protect their pets against a distemper outbreak.

The Pulaski Police Department says in a news release that several cases of canine distemper have been confirmed in the county.

Police believe the contagious airborne virus is being spread by infected raccoons.

The police department is asking owners to have their canines vaccinated against the virus. Pets with symptoms that include high fever, coughing and vomiting should be checked by a veterinarian.
