ODU, ex-professor settle sex discrimination suit

»  Comments | Post a Comment

NORFOLK — A lawsuit that accused Old Dominion University of sexual discrimination has been settled.

A spokesman for the state Attorney General's Office tells The Virginian-Pilot that Linda M. Gragen settled her federal lawsuit against ODU for $15,000. A trial had been scheduled for Feb. 21.

Gragen's lawsuit claimed the university denied her promotion and tenure because she had complained about a colleague's unwanted sexual advances. The university said Gragen's research and scholarship were inadequate and she didn't qualify for tenure.

Gragen was an assistant professor in the department of exercise science, sport, physical education and recreation from 2002 to 2009. She currently is a tenure-track professor at Norfolk State University.
