Norfolk recorded a record-high temperature on Friday, while Richmond's high fell just short of the record for the date, according to the National Weather Service.
Norfolk's high of 82 degrees topped that city's 1985 mark of 80. Richmond's temperature reached 81, just shy of the record of 82, set on Feb. 24, 1985.
The warm day brought high winds and rain and a tornado watch for parts of the state. Damaged power lines cut electricity to thousands of Dominion Virginia Power customers. At 10:24 p.m., 1,821 Virginia customers — 807 of them in the Richmond and Tri-Cities areas — were still without power, according to Dominion.
