A crash this evening involving a tractor-trailer and three other vehicles on northbound Interstate 95 near Willis Road in Chesterfield County has closed the left lanes both northbound and southbound.
State police Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2008 Volvo tractor-trailer, traveling north in the left lane, attempted to change lanes and struck a 2009 Chevrolet Impala in the center lane.
After striking the Impala, the tractor-trailer driver lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the jersey wall, Molnar said. Debris from the jersey wall struck two vehicles traveling southbound on Interstate 95.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center, he said.
The other drivers involved were not injured in the crash or from the debris. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts, Molnar said.
The tractor-trailer driver, Sharon S. Simmons, 55, of Chesterfield was charged with making an unsafe lane change, police said.
Virginia State Police said they are investigating the 7:07 p.m. incident but that it was not clear when all lanes of the interstate would reopen.
The closed lanes are just south of the Willis Road exit of I-95 in Chesterfield County.
Earlier Wednesday, a tractor-trailer crash at the Hanover-Caroline county line closed portions of the interstate for nearly five hours.
