All lanes of Interstate 95 north near the Carmel Church exit have reopened following a tractor-trailer wreck that blocked one lane and slowed traffic for about two miles earlier this afternoon, Virginia State Police said.
The crash occurred about 1:10 p.m. when the driver of a 1988 Peterbilt attempted to slow for traffic and lost control, hitting a 2012 Freightliner. The second rig then ran off the right side of the interstate and overturned on its passenger side while going down an embankment. The first tractor-trailer jackknifed, blocking the right lane and shoulder.
The driver of the tractor-trailer that slid down the embankment suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, said Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar, a state police spokesman.
The right lane reopened about 4:20 p.m., police said. An investigation into the wreck was continuing.
