Shipbuilding employee writes safety song
Newport News Shipbuilding is hoping that music will help promote safety at the Virginia shipyard.
The division of Huntington Ingalls Industries has released a song written by one of its shipbuilders.
The song, called "Safety First," was written by shipfitter Alfred Flythe for a contest sponsored over the summer. He says jobs at the shipyard can be dangerous if safety isn't the first priority. Flythe says he's excited the song will serve as a reminder to his co-workers.
Flythe's rap song was one of 25 contest submissions in genres ranging from country and gospel to rock and rap.
For winning the contest, Flythe is getting $1,000 and production of the music video featuring his rap.
