VCU Health System makes Top 10 list

The VCU Health System has been named to the 2012 Top 10 list of nonprofits for executive women by the National Association for Female Executives.

This is the sixth time NAFE has given the VCU Health System such an award, which is based on female representation, hiring, attrition and promotion rates, and retention and advancement programs.

Women represent 80 percent of those who receive management and leadership training at VCU Health System.

Bon Secours Richmond Health System also was named to the list.

Genworth unit may rebound in 2013

Genworth Financial Inc. said its operation backing home loans may rebound next year on the strength of policies sold after 2008.

Trends in the business "suggest opportunity to return to profitability during 2013," the Henrico County-based insurer said Friday in a presentation. The forecast assumes "no material global economic downturn," the company said.

It said Thursday that Ray Romano, previously of Freddie Mac, was hired as chief risk officer of Genworth's U.S. mortgage insurance unit, and Dean Mitchell was promoted to chief financial officer of the unit.

Genworth's mortgage-insurance unit's operating loss narrowed to $94 million in the fourth quarter from $352 million a year earlier.

Media General reaches agreement with lenders

Media General Inc. said it has reached an agreement with its lenders for waivers relating to its bank loan, completing what the Richmond-based company said it the first step toward refinancing its debt.

The waivers reset a financial covenant during the first quarter. The agreement also deferred a Feb. 9 deadline requiring a financial picture of how the company would remain in compliance with its loan covenants in future quarters.

The waivers provide Media General with near-term flexibility, the company said, as it pursues discussions with its lender group concerning covenant amendments and an extension of the maturity of $363 million of bank debt due March 29, 2013.

Media General said it hopes to complete the discussions by the end of the first quarter.

The company owns the Richmond Times-Dispatch, 22 other newspapers, 18 television stations, and Web sites associated with those media properties.
