What else are our lawmakers up to?
Editor, Times-Dispatch:
It seems funny that only after Congress was caught with its hands in the cookie jar did it decide to take action. Insider trading was very common amongst our lawmakers — a practice that would put any of the rest of us in prison for a long time. Only after it became public knowledge did the Senate pass the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act, with the House soon to follow.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was quoted: "It's necessary for us to reinforce the notion that we are here by will of the people and it is very important that the public trust is maintained." The notion? That tells me that Congress wants to make it look like it is doing the right thing.
What else is Congress doing that we don't know about?
