Virginia Commonwealth University has partnered with an institution in the United Arab Emirates to study the feasibility of establishing an information security academic program in the Middle East.
VCU is working with the Higher Colleges of Technology, a countrywide network of colleges in the UAE, to examine the potential of an online/distance instructional collaboration for graduate business students in cyber security.
Under consideration is a joint center in information security to help train employees in local institutions and to facilitate exchanges of faculty and graduate students to collaborate on research and teaching.
Gurpreet Dhillon, professor of information security, is leading VCU's involvement in the project, which would expand the university's role in the region. In 1998, the university joined Education City in Qatar to open a branch campus for its School of the Arts.
