Virginia Commonwealth University is conducting a full-scale test of its emergency communications system this morning.
The Richmond school conducts full-scale tests near the start of each semester. Unlike VCU's monthly tests, which occur on the first Wednesday of each month at noon, today's test will be on a larger scale.
At 10 a.m. today, 10 sirens throughout the Monroe Park and VCU Medical Center campuses will sound a fast, up-and-down wail for three minutes, and after a two-minute pause, they will sound a steady wail for one minute to signal "all clear" to end the test.
The test also will include text messages, digital signs, emails, classroom alerts and website information.
