Prince George gets emergency operations grant

»  Comments | Post a Comment

PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George County is enhancing its emergency operations center thanks to a grant from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

Officials say the grant funds will be used to buy computers for the emergency operations center, along with network and wireless Internet equipment.

During Hurricane Irene the county lost Internet and communications capabilities. That made it difficult to maintain connection with other agencies during the response and recovery phases of the hurricane.

Officials say the grant will help for future events by having computers operational at a moment's notice and with a backup system if there's a problem with the Internet services.
