A four-member GOP committee today unanimously nominated Peter Farrell as its candidate for the 56th District House of Delegates seat vacated by Del. Bill Janis, R-Henrico.

Farrell, a founder of an alternative energy company, was selected from a pool of six potential candidates during a meeting at the Twin Hickory Library in Glen Allen.

A Henrico County resident and a graduate of the University of Virginia, Farrell is the son of Tom Farrell, CEO of Dominion Resources Inc.

Each of the candidates made a presentation of up to 10 minutes. The committee, made up of one person from each of the district's four localities, then went into a closed meeting and discussed the candidates, before returning to vote in open session.

Farrell pledged to represent residents from all parts of the district.

Janis, the House majority whip, is stepping down from the legislature to run for Henrico commonwealth's attorney.
