The United Nations has declared a famine in significant portions of Somalia. Severe drought affects other countries and regions in the Horn of Africa as well. ChildFund International is there.
The Richmond-based organization, formerly known as the Christian Children's Fund, feeds the hungry and heals the hurt. The famine has compelled families to leave their homes to search for food. Refugees head toward camps, where sanitation may be lacking. Malnutrition rates are soaring. Malnourishment inflicts lifelong damage.
The situation is dire, yet ChildFund is not deterred. It continues to do what it long has done. It does good. And it is prepared to increase its efforts to supply food, hygiene and other necessities to communities under siege.
The hungry sheep look up, and by compassionate works must be fed.
