Norfolk Trains: All aboard!

»  Comments | Post a Comment

On Wednesday Gov. Bob McDonnell applauded news that Amtrak will offer service from Norfolk through Petersburg and Richmond to points north. The trains will start running by Dec. 31.

Existing service to Hampton Roads follows the north side of the James. The new trains will run on the southern bank. The route should attract residents from Norfolk, Virginia Beach and other nearby communities.

Businesses have promoted the worthy cause of enhanced rail, just as they have pushed for discount airlines. They have an obligation to patronize the trains (and the low-fare carriers). If transportation options are to endure, business travelers will have to use them. By the way, Friday's news about AirTran, Southwest, and RIC was great.
