CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Jury selection began today in the murder trial of George Huguely, the former University of Virginia lacrosse player accused in the slaying of women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love.
Each potential juror is facing questions from Judge Edward Hogshire in Charlottesville Circuit Court, then from the prosecution and defense.
Hogshire's questions have included whether jurors have any personal knowledge of the case and if they've followed it in the news.
"I have opinions, I can hardly avoid that, but I'm willing to hear all sides," one candidate told him.
Defense attorney Rhonda Quagliana asked the candidate, a University of Virginia professor, if he had reservations about the potential effect of the trial's verdict on U.Va.
"It gets my institution in the news in an unfortunate light, and that can't be good," he said. "It would be better if the news were another Nobel Prize."
He said those concerns wouldn't affect his ability to decide the case fairly.
