A soldier from Hopewell has died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense says.
Pfc. Michael W. Pyron, 30, died Tuesday in Parwan province, in eastern Afghanistan, the department said in a news release this morning.
The department declined to release details about Pyron's death, but a NATO release said one of its service members had died as a result of a non-combat injury in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Pyron, whose remains arrived in the United States at Dover (Del.) Air Force Base this morning, was assigned to the 25th Signal Battalion, 160th Signal Brigade, 335th Signal Command Theater, East Point, Ga.
Maj. Carla Debro, a spokeswoman for the 335th, said Pyron was injured and died Tuesday. She declined to release details about the nature of the fatality.
“The circumstances surrounding the soldier’s death are being investigated,” she said.
Debro said Pyron joined in the Army in May 2010 and had been with the 335th since February 2011. He was serving as a radio and communications security specialist, she said.
